Each little bird is carved like its larger counterpart only on a
smaller scale. And just like the larger bird carvings, each of these
bird carvings is their own little masterpiece.
The master carvers,
who create these bird carvings, must know carving techniques as well as
the intricacies of each gemstone. Each bird carving begins with a
sketch best suited for that particular species of bird as well as each
particular specimen of gemstone.
Since nature never creates two stones that are alike, each creation
must be expertly designed, carved and polished to suit the individual
shape, pattern and color of each carved bird. For a master carver to
reach this level of proficiency take eight to ten years.
No two bird carvings are alike, although most are three to four inches
tall and approximately two inches wide. The family of carved birds
includes Parrots, Macaws, Cockatoos, King Fishers ( with hand carved
gemstone fish in their mouths ), Owls, Eagles, Songbirds, Robins,
Humming Birds and Toucans.
All the gemstones used in these carvings are of superior quality, and
the list of gemstones is quite extensive. Included in this list are
amethyst, agate, amazonite, aventurine, bloodstone, calcite, carnelian,
citrine, dolomite, aquamarine, fluorite, howlite, jasper, obsidian,
selenite, tiger-eye, unakite, crystal quartz, tourmaline, aragonite,
chrysacolla, rose quartz, sodalite, onyx, smokey quartz, serpentine,
green quartz, blue quartz and azurite.
All the feet are gold plated.
Each bird carving is then perched on a semi-precious stone. Most sit on
amethyst, citrine or crystal quartz geode bases, but there are also
bases of uncommon minerals such a tourmaline or dioptase.
Each base is approximately three inches tall and two to three inches
wide. Although just like the carved birds, the bases vary, but all are
guaranteed to be bright, brilliant and beautiful.
Many of these stones come from a source considered to be the best in the world.
Pairing a delightful bird perched on a sparkling base is having the
finest craftsmen meeting nature's brilliance. Each and very one of
these carved birds is a treasure and just like nature, the color,
shapes and designs are endless.
